Bobuq Sayed is a cultural worker of the Afghan diaspora. They are the author of A Brief History of Australian Terror, a chapbook of essays published by Common Room editions, and their debut novel on queer migration, No God but Us, is set to be released in May 2026 by Harper Books in the United States, Hajar Press in the United Kingdom, and Ultimo Press in Australia and New Zealand.
No God but Us has been recognized as one of them magazine's '10 Most Anticipated LGBTQ+ Books of 2026,' and in January 2026, Publishers Weekly highlighted Sayed among Spring 2026 Writers to Watch.
A 2022-23 Steinbeck fellow at San José State University, Sayed is also the co-editor of the anthology Nothing to Hide: Voices of Trans and Gender Diverse Australia (Allen and Unwin).
An award-winning graduate of the University of Miami's MFA program in Creative Writing, they have received support from Creative Australia, Lambda Literary, Tin House, Kundiman, Exchange for Change, the Wheeler Centre, the American Council for Learned Societies, and the VONA/Voices Foundation. They are represented by Maria Cardona Serra at Aevitas Creative Management.
